Because a school year front-loads everything. Setup week, meet the teacher, the first wave of parent emails and whatever went around the building in week three all land inside a month, and nobody schedules recovery into the calendar.
It is the end of September and there are eight months to go. At The Edit Aesthetics and Wellness in Houston, Texas, educators are one of the groups most likely to put their own appointments off until summer, then not go in summer either.
Teachers, aides and school nurses spend more hours around more people than almost any other profession. That exposure is simply part of the job.
So getting sick more often than you used to is not a sign you are run down in some personal way. It is arithmetic.
The descriptions are consistent enough that we can nearly predict them by the calendar:
This is not a joke to anyone who teaches. A schedule with no reliable break means people simply stop drinking water, and by October that is a habit rather than a bad day.
Chronic mild dehydration shows up as headaches, afternoon fatigue and brain fog, all of which get blamed on the job instead.
The unglamorous things first, because they work and they are free. Protect your sleep window. Keep water within arm's reach so it does not require a decision. Wash your hands relentlessly. Get your flu shot from your physician or pharmacy.
None of that is what a wellness practice is supposed to lead with, and all of it matters more than anything we sell.
According to Shalonda Jacobs, FNP-C, CWS, "Teachers apologize for taking an appointment. They will reschedule themselves three times before they will reschedule anything for a student. I wish that were less common."
Appointments are short enough to fit an after-school window, and our hours run Monday through Thursday until five and Friday until one.
If fatigue has been building since August, lab testing is a reasonable first step. Thyroid function, iron, vitamin D and B12 all produce exactly this picture, and all of them respond to being identified rather than endured.
A school year is a long stretch, and the thing that helps is consistency rather than one appointment in a crisis week. Membership options exist to make the steady, unglamorous version sustainable.
If you would only come twice a year, pay per visit instead. We will tell you that.
No. It supplies nutrients your immune system uses, which is not the same as preventing illness. Sleep, hand hygiene and vaccination remain the measures with the strongest evidence behind them.
For many appointments, yes. Injections take minutes and most infusions run thirty to forty-five once the line is placed. Tell us your window when you call and we will tell you honestly what fits.
No. School nurses, aides, coaches, bus drivers, cafeteria staff and front office staff are in the same building under the same conditions, and all of them are welcome.
Eight months is a long time to run on empty. Book with The Edit at our Houston, Beaumont or Nederland office.
