Cold and Flu Season Wellness Tips | Houston, TX

How Do You Get Ahead of Cold and Flu Season?

Sleep, handwashing, an annual flu vaccine from your physician or pharmacy, and staying home when you are sick. Those four do the overwhelming majority of the work, and every one of them is free.

That is not the answer a wellness practice is expected to lead with. It is the honest one, and at The Edit Aesthetics and Wellness in Houston, Texas we would rather be useful than sell you something you do not need.

Why the second week of school matters

Classrooms reopen, everyone moves back indoors, and household transmission climbs. In Southeast Texas the timing is predictable enough that families start bracing for it.

One cold in a house of four rarely stays one cold. That is the pattern worth getting ahead of rather than reacting to.

Sleep is the one people skip

Short sleep affects immune function measurably, and it is the variable most people treat as negotiable when the calendar fills back up in September.

No supplement compensates for a run of five-hour nights. If you only change one thing before the season peaks, protect your sleep window.

Where nutrients actually come into it

Your immune system relies on specific nutrients to function, including vitamin C, zinc and the B vitamins. If you are running low on them, that is a genuine gap.

Being low is not the same as being deficient, and neither is the same as being sick. The useful question is whether you are actually low, which is what lab testing answers rather than guesswork.

The Immunity Boost, and what it does not do

The Immunity Boost is our high-dose immune support infusion, built around vitamin C, zinc and Tri-Immune and formulated to support the body's natural defenses and recovery. It delivers those nutrients directly, without depending on digestion.

What it does not do is prevent influenza, treat an infection, or replace vaccination. Any clinic implying otherwise is overselling, and you should hear that from us before you hear it from someone else.

Who tends to benefit most

The value is highest for people heading into a demanding stretch already running low, rather than for someone healthy and well rested looking for insurance.

  • Teachers, school staff and anyone else in a building full of people all day
  • Healthcare and shift workers heading into a heavy rotation
  • People recovering from something that left them depleted
  • Anyone whose labs show a genuine gap worth correcting

According to Shalonda Jacobs, FNP-C, CWS, "I tell people the boring answers first. Sleep, wash your hands, get your flu shot. If they have done all that and still feel like they are running on empty, then we have a real conversation about what their labs say."

If you are feeling genuinely unwell

This matters more than anything else on this page. If you are feeling genuinely unwell, call 911 or go to urgent care rather than booking a wellness appointment.

A fever that will not come down, trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, or symptoms that worsen after seeming to improve all need emergency assessment. That distinction gets blurry in advertising. It should not be blurry to you.

Frequently asked questions

Can an IV keep me from getting sick?

No. An infusion supplies nutrients your immune system uses, which is different from preventing illness. Vaccination, sleep and hand hygiene remain the measures with the strongest evidence behind them.

Should I get a drip if I am already sick?

That depends on what is going on, and it is a conversation to have with a provider rather than a decision to make from a website. If you are feeling genuinely unwell, urgent care or your physician comes first.

Do you give flu shots?

Vaccination is a conversation for your physician or pharmacy. Call our office if you would like help thinking through what else makes sense heading into the season.

Go into fall with a full tank

If you are heading into a demanding season already depleted, that is worth knowing before it peaks rather than after. First-time patients receive fifty dollars off their first treatment, so book to claim it. Book a visit with The Edit at our Houston, Beaumont or Nederland office, or explore our IV drip therapy options.
